About The Project Groups

We will conduct research and development work within four particular project groups:

Attraction

The number of applications to higher education programs in science and technology has been decreasing over many years whereas the demand for those with engineering qualifications has arguably increased. Young people eagerly consume new technology but are apparently uninterested in its development and production. The project group aims to compare national perceptions of engineers and engineering courses in order to compare and contrast attitudes within partner countries.Read more

Barriers

The Attract project aims to discuss what prerequisites that are necessary for successful studies and will analyze the admission process of students with non-traditional pre-university qualifications which may include competences acquired through informal learning or apprenticeships.Read more

Students

Within the Lisbon Strategy, the EU has identified goals such as the increase of the number of graduates in maths, science and technology and the reduction of gender imbalance in these subjects. Several countries have set ambitious targets for as much as 50% of the young people continuing to higher education.Read more

Retention

In this section we will identify key aspects in literature on retention. We will investigate how the partner countries’ statistics match rising concerns about drop-outs, and compare our current retention-increasing strategies. Further discussion will involve development of curricula, student learning experiences, and tutoring and/or mentoring systems - all in relation to recruitment and retention. We will design and field-test interventions with modifications necessary for their particular contexts.Read more
