The Aalto University is the oldest university of technology in Finland and a pioneer in the field of technology in the country.
Founded in 1849 the newly-established Technical School of Helsinki began the organised teaching of technology in Finland. In January 2010, Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki School of Economics and University of Art and Design formed a new university - Aalto University. The merger opens up a world of possibilities for multidisciplinary education and research. The goal for the new university is to be one of the leading institutions in the world in terms of research and education in its own specialised disciplines by 2020. Aalto University is based in Otaniemi in Espoo, 10 km from the centre of Helsinki on a campus designed by Alvar Aalto. The School of Science and Technology is committed to the provision of high-quality education. We aim to equip our students with a firm foundation of knowledge needed in various fields of technology to enable their continuous professional development and ensure that they meet the requirements of an increasingly international operating environment. Although we focus on technology and natural sciences, our department of Architecture successfully keeps up the traditions of Finnish architecture.
