Uppsala University is Scandinavia’s oldest. It is a "complete" university with teaching and research from science and engineering to law and theology.
The Faculty of Science and Technology consists of sections for Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences, and Mathematics and Computing. A recent international evaluation of the entire university identified many areas of research classed as of very high international standard and world leading, many of these within the Faculty. Many education programs are collaborative programmes involving more than one of the sections. This is especially true for the advanced 5-year engineering programs. The Faculty also encourages programs that include components from other parts of the University, such as social sciences and medicine. Some programs are also run in collaboration with the Agricultural University in Uppsala.
The Faculty has about 9000 students, half of them following advanced 5-year engineering programmes.
