Cooperation across subject and faculty borders and an entrepreneurial spirit of education is the hallmark of Linköping University (LiU). Since its foundation in the 1970’s, the university has established itself as an innovative and modern institution in both education and research.
During the past decade LiU has experienced rapid growth, involving the establishment of a new campus in the twin city of Norrköping. With a student population of 25 000 and 3 500 employees LiU is one of the major universities in Sweden.
The university is organized in four faculties and 14 departments. The Institute of Technology, i.e. the faculty of science and technology, has more than 9 000 students of which most follow advanced 5-year engineering programmes leading to a degree of MSc in Engineering. There are some 600 PhD students at the Institute of Technology, more than 1 000 employees and a budget exceeding 1 billion Swedish kronor.
